Place a mirror where it gives a comfortable view and reflects something you want to see. The best position is different for a bathroom basin, a bedroom dressing table and a decorative wall feature.
Find your next upgrade in our illuminated and rechargeable makeup mirrors, then compare the size and features that suit your space.
At the bathroom vanity
Centre the mirror around the basin or the overall vanity arrangement, depending on the layout. Check the reflection for different users and allow space above taps and beside wall lights.
For an LED mirror, plan the power connection and controls along with the height. For a cabinet, include the projection and open-door clearance in the layout.
At a dressing table
Decide the position while sitting in your usual chair. Your face should fall comfortably within the reflection without leaning or stretching. Leave enough room between the mirror stand and the front of the table to work.
Consider nearby windows. Natural light can be useful, but a bright reflection directly in your eyes is uncomfortable. Adjust the mirror angle or table position to make the light work for you.
On a decorative wall
Look at the reflected view from the main entrance to the room. A tidy console, artwork or window can help the mirror become part of the design. Avoid placing it simply to fill a gap if the reflection feels awkward.
Test the outline before fixing anything. A small adjustment in height or alignment can make the mirror feel much more connected to the room.
For a permanent bathroom vanity
If your getting-ready space is above a bathroom basin, these wall mirrors offer a different setup from a portable or tabletop makeup mirror:
- Frameless rectangular double-light mirror — front and back lighting in a broad rectangular reflection.
- Long oval backlit mirror — a tall curved outline with backlighting and memory.
- Large rectangular bluetooth mirror — integrated audio and front lighting for a bathroom vanity.
